johnsonaJohnson was a member of Greeneville Lodge No. 119, in Greeneville, Tennessee, and on June 20, 1867, while President of the United States, the Scottish Rite Degrees were communicated to him in the Executive Mansion by Azariah T. C. Pierson, 33, S.G.I.G. of Minnesota and Grand Prior of The Supreme Council, and Benjamin Brown French, 33, of Washington, DC, who was a Past Grand Master of the Grand Encampment, Knights Templar of the United States, and Lieutenant Grand Commander of the Scottish Rite for the Southern Jurisdiction.
